Jewish-Dutch critics of Israeli occupation honoured with royal decoration Een Ander Joods Geluid Amsterdam, The NetherlandsBoth Mrs. Anneke Mouthaan and Mr. Harry de Winter received royal decorations, respectively the Knighthood in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Ridder in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau) and Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau (Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau), for establishing the foundation A Different Jewish Voice (Een Ander Joods Geluid). A little over three years ago Mrs. Mouthaan initiated, together with TV-producer Harry de Winter, this organisation out of deeply felt concern about the manner of debate and the resulting public opinion in the Jewish community in the Netherlands regarding the policies of the Israeli government vis á vis the question of Palestine. The organisation has grown rapidly and is joined also by a handful of Dutch-Jewish VIP’s. A Different Jewish Voice is a group of concerned Jews who aim to contribute towards the task of achieving peace in the Middle East. A Different Jewish Voice does not question Israel’s right to exist but wants to stimulate public debate and encourage dissenting points of view regarding the State of Israel and the Occupied Territories. It is out of solidarity with the State of Israel and concern for its continued existence, that A Different Jewish Voice supports peace initiatives based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: equality, tolerance and humanity. In 2002 the organisation established a pan-European network of Jewish organisations called: European Jews for a Just Peace (EJJP). While handing her the royal order last April, the mayor of Amsterdam, Mr. Job Cohen, praised Mrs. Mouthaan and her work: "Mrs Mouthaan inspires people and is a source of information for human-rights-organisations and the peace movement in Israel."
